2010 Adelaide Cabaret Festival: Donna McKechnie - My Musical Comedy Life - 16th to 18th June

Australian Premiere

One singular sensation!

“This mix of high-sheen professionalism and raw vulnerability makes ‘An Evening with Donna McKechnie’ quite a singular sensation.” - Ben Brantley, The New York Times

Tony Award-winning star of A Chorus Line Donna McKechnie is regarded internationally as one of Broadway’s foremost dancing and singing stars and an original triple threat. Described as one of the best dancers ever to grace the Broadway stage, her cabaret show, My Musical Comedy Life, received unanimous raves from New York theatre critics, while her full-length autobiographical theatrical show, Inside The Music (with text by Christopher Durang), captivates audiences wherever it is performed.  She is now coming to Australia for the first time.

Donna has performed extensively in concert, in cabaret and with symphony orchestras and has even appeared as a guest star in television series including Fame, Cheers and Family Ties.

She Choreographed the highly acclaimed production of Guys and Dolls, at the Hollywood Bowl, directed by Richard Jay-Alexander. Donna features predominantly in the highly successful documentary Every Little Step. Her memoir, Time Steps My Musical Comedy Life was published by Simon & Schuster.

Review

The Stage

The Music and the Mirror, her showcase number from A Chorus Line, still features some lively choreography, despite the venue’s restrictions, but it is the passion and commitment demonstrated during this number that really touches the heart and goes some way to explaining McKechnie’s enduring presence on the stage.

…it is the personality of the individual that carries an evening such as this and McKechnie is an affectionate, affable trouper, reporting in from Broadway to remind us of her well-deserved place in the scheme of things.
